Last week I decided to try a recipe for slow cooker beef stroganoff. I love using the slow cooker/crock pot and am always looking for new recipes. Unfortunately, this recipe called for mushrooms…
I don’t mind mushrooms on pizza or in other recipes. For some reason though, I don’t like preparing mushrooms – really don’t like preparing mushrooms. Some people get grossed out by raw chicken. I get grossed out by mushroom gills. The stroganoff recipe went something like this for me:
Stare down the mushrooms. Clean mushrooms with a wet cloth (while complaining to myself because the mushrooms were kinda dirty). Prepare myself mentally to slice the mushrooms. Noticed that these mushrooms had very prominent gills. Felt a bit squeamish but decided to persevere. Sliced two mushrooms, couldn’t take it anymore and decided to make the recipe without mushrooms.
The remainder of the recipe continued without incident.
I substituted a little extra beef broth for the wine and added an extra tablespoon of cornstarch. All in all, the recipe turned out pretty well.
On another note, my husband and I had some pineapple with our dinner tonight. The pineapple came with its own slicing directions!
How do you slice your pineapple?
Are there any foods you don’t like to prepare?
