I love movies! They offer a great distraction from stress and a fun activity to do with friends/family. When I was in college, movies provided a great activity for weekend evenings, fun dates, remedy for dating woes, way to bond with roommates, exposure to history and other cultures, etc. I really enjoyed the local dollar theater as well as BYU’s International Cinema.
If you are wondering if my love of movies extends to some documentaries and foreign films, the answer is yes!
Sometimes the cure for what ails you is time with a good movie. I like to think of movie time as a prescription for happier evening – like the old doctor’s line, “Take two pills and call me in the morning.” The cinema prescription? Watch one and call me in the morning…
I came across a few websites recommending mood boosting films. Among the “Films Guaranteed to Lift Your Spirits” are a few that I enjoyed: Babe, Up and the Blind Side. A few of my favorites also made the “20 Movies to Boost Your Mood” list: Remember the Titans, Forrest Gump, Mrs. Doubtfire and Dirty Dancing.
Don’t get me wrong, I recognize the importance of media in moderation. I’ve also come to learn that movies can inspire, entertain and lift spirits.
Over the weekend I saw The Monuments Men at a dollar theater. I enjoyed the movie (and the chance to sit down and rest my legs after the Longhorn Run).
