Cherry and Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie

Happy Friday! I’m linking up again this week with Annemarie from The Fit Foodie Mama, Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl, Farrah from Fairyburger and Montana from Pretty Lil Mudder to bring you healthy smoothie recipes! Please be sure to check out their recipes and feel free to add yours as well. Today I’d like to share my Cherry and Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie recipe with you – a perfect post-workout source of protein!

I’m finishing up week 5 of marathon training this week and have used smoothies quite a bit over the last 5 weeks as post-run fuel. No matter what combination of items I throw in my smoothie, I like to add a secret ingredient … spinach! A handful of baby spinach will add nutrients to any smoothie but trust me, you can’t taste it. Baby spinach is very mild and the taste will be masked by whatever protein powder and fruit you use. This Cherry and Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie is one of my favorite creations to date!

Cherry and Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie

1/4 cup frozen cherries (I bought fresh cherries from the store, removed the pits, sliced the cherries and froze the pieces)
4 ice cubes
1 scoop protein powder (I love About Time Vanilla Protein Powder)
1 large handful baby spinach
2 tsp peanut butter
Almond milk (I use Vanilla flavored Almond milk)
1 Tbsp ground flax seed (optional)

Combine ingredients in blender or a magic bullet, adding almond milk until smoothie reaches your desired consistency. Enjoy!

This sounds really good! I have heard cherries are great post-workout for runners. While I don’t usually stock up on cherries- I think I will go buy some just to make this smoothie 🙂

Awesome! I’ve heard that cherries help reduce inflammation. I love them because they are delicious!

Cherries! While I was living at the cat shelter, I discovered frozen cherries in the freezer and absolutely loved them in smoothies! I never tried throwing in peanut butter, but that sounds like an awesome idea. :D!

  3. Haven’t tried anything with cherries yet- I must do so! I forgot how much I liked them until I read your recipe- it sounds delish! And spinach is a great addition- good way to get greens without realizing you’re getting them.

You are like me Emily! I add spinach to almost all my smoothies! I did not like cherries for a long time, but lately I can not seem to get enough! I have also heard that they are good for running recovery! I will be trying this out as soon as I get my hands on some cherries!!
    Thanks for sharing!

Yay for cherries! I have also heard great things about their ability to help recovery. I love that they are delicious too. 🙂

  5. YUM!! I need to get some cherries while they’re still in season and keep them stocked in my freezer so I can make this whenever I please!

Thanks for reading! I love keeping cherries in the freezer so I can have them while it’s not cherry season.
