ENERGYbits Product Review, Product Discount and GIVEAWAY!

Have you read about ENERGYbits? ENERGYbits are tablets of spirulina algae used a fuel source by runners and other athletes. ENERGYbits do not contain sugar, caffeine, gluten, additives, animal products, chemicals or fillers. I’d seen ENERGYbits pop up on other blogs as a favorite fuel choice of runners and was intrigued when offered the opportunity to sample and review ENERGYbits.

Here’s a handy fuel comparison chart provided to me by the folks at ENERGYbits:

I received a travel tin of ENERGYbits containing approximately 70 ENERGYbits. Since the suggested serving size is 20-30 bits and I have a pretty sensitive stomach, I tried 20 bits at a time.

What I liked: I really like that ENERGYbits do not contain sugar, caffeine, gluten, additives, animal products, chemicals or fillers. My body performs best with natural fuel sources but it’s difficult to find products that do not contain artificial ingredients. As I mentioned, my stomach is pretty sensitive and I did not have any stomach issues after eating the bits.

What I didn’t like: I did not notice a big difference in my energy level when using the ENERGYbits before a workout. I might have had more success if I’d tried taking 30 bits before exercising but 30 bits felt like a large number to swallow prior to a run. Additionally, the price ($115 for 33 servings) is a bit cost prohibitive for me.

Ultimately, ENERGYbits did not make a big difference in my workout but as I mentioned, it may have been due to the amount I ate before exercising. Even though they didn’t work for me, they are very popular and are the fuel source of choice for many people.

  1. I have tried energy bits as well. And like you I didn’t think it made a big difference in my performance. I didn’t take many either so maybe that’s why.

  2. These seems great. I used to love to have a powerbar after and a glass of green tea.

      I haven’t tried powerbars but I like eating protein bars if I’m on the go after I finish with a run.

    I also sampled and purchased some Energybits and didn’t notice a huge difference either. I was disappointed because I really really wanted to like them since they a whole food as opposed to a supplement.

  7. This is crazy, but I actually don’t fuel when I work out, I do it for a purpose which actually helps me in races. But I do fuel after I run, for sure and always within 20 minutes and things with high protein and low calorie are always on my list!!!

    I try to use real food as much as possible, and I’ve used energy bits before as well. I find they don’t necessarily give me a big “boost” but just help me keep my energy at an even keel during long runs.

  9. Energy Bits work great the time I tried them. Awesome fuel. Morning workouts I like to have something in my stomach, usually some PB bread or a CLIF bar as some fuel.

    I’m still figuring out the best fueling and replenishing options. Energy bits sound interesting, and I would love to be able to give them a try.

    I still use Gu for fuel when I don’t have bits, but I have tried EnergyBits and they do work for me! Only downside is the cost for me.

  15. My favorite workout fuel is a balanced breakfast of sourdough toast with a small dab of butter, a boiled egg and some asparagus. So delicious and gives me the energy I need!

    Right now Honey Stinger chews or pretzels, but I’ve been really interested in trying ENERGYbits!

      I’ve heard great things about Honey Stingers but haven’t tried them yet. Pretzels are a great idea – I need extra salt when I run.

    My favorite workout fuel is nut butters/coconut oil mixtures, etc and bcaa. I haven’t tried Energybits yet!
